The Walled Garden Project

Volunteers and service users have been working since May 2022 to begin to renovate and restore this beautiful neglected walled garden on the outskirts of Whitby. This long term well-being project hopes to help people become involved in nature and promote emotional, physical and social well-being.

The produce garden is being developed to grow and harvest fruit, vegetables, cut flower beds and help to encourage a rich habitat for pollinators. The heritage orchard is a haven for wildlife and is being managed to encourage a rich environment for all sorts of flora and fauna.

The Trust runs twice weekly volunteer sessions, event days and works in partnership with WHITBY NATURALISTS’ CLUB to promote environmental conservation.

If you are interested in volunteering or want to find out more contact us or Tel 01947 825000.

Use of the garden is restricted to registered volunteers only and not open to the public. The Trust kindly asks people not to visit without permission.

New – our sister garden in Sleights: The Growing Together Gardening Club
Sleights & Sandsend Medical Practice, Iburndale Lane, Sleights YO22 5DP

We’re a small garden with big ideas. By deepening our understanding of nature, we can reimagine how we come together to improve our environment and be inspired to lead more positive lives.

This is a lovely opportunity to create a habitat and relate to the environment in a mindful way. The sessions are designed for adults from the local district and you don’t have to be a patient of Sleights & Sandsend Medical Practice to attend.

The practice is working in partnership with Whitby Area Development Trust to help to empower people and promote well – being through nature.
